Google API Data Use
Last updated: August 9, 2026
Insane Home is a project workspace that helps teams handle client conversations and related work in one place. Connecting a Google account is optional. The connected user explicitly starts the connection and approves access on Google's consent screen.
Requested Google scope
The Mail feature requests one Gmail API scope: https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.modify. We also request standard OpenID Connect identity scopes (openid,https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.email, andhttps://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.profile) to identify the Google account that the user chose to connect.
Why this scope is needed
gmail.modify is the narrowest single Gmail scope that supports the complete user-directed Mail workflow in Insane Home. The feature displays mailbox folders, labels, message previews, and the full text of an email the user opens. It also lets the user compose and send an email or reply, archive a message, mark it read or unread, star it, apply or remove labels, and move it to or restore it from Trash.
gmail.metadatacannot support opening or displaying email content because it excludes message bodies.gmail.readonlycannot support user-requested mailbox changes such as labels, archive, read state, starring, Trash, or restore.gmail.sendcannot support displaying a mailbox or user-requested mailbox organization.
We do not request gmail.metadata, gmail.readonly, gmail.send, ormail.google.com. The Mail feature does not permanently delete Gmail messages or change Google account settings.
How data is used and protected
Gmail data is used only to provide the Mail feature for the connected account and its authorized project. Access tokens are kept server-side and are never sent to the browser. Each mailbox request is checked against the signed-in user and project authorization before it is performed. We use this data only to provide or improve user-visible workspace functionality; we do not sell it, use it for advertising, or provide it to AI services for model training.
The use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
